First day out on my bike this year (I know!) and such a drama before I even left home...
It's like this...I have 2 bikes...one is the 2 wheel equivalent to a Ferarri and the other the equivalent to a VW V10...so nothing to be ashamed of..
I'd decided to start training on the Ferarri initially as I'm spectacularly unfit and then when I felt I'd improved I'd move to the V10.......as the bike I'll be using in Vietnam will most probably be more VW Passat...if I'm lucky!
Anyway back to this morning....wanted to go early to avoid traffic as first cycle in...oh..I can't even remember..so just about to leave home at 8am only to discover that the Ferarri had a flat tyre...can you imagine my despair?!!!
No? Well let me explain...
This bike was given to me by a once fond friend (''OFF'') and he'd assured me that it was so good I'd be flying up L'Etacq hill like a mountain goat......such is the power of this bike....now you can understand the reason for my despair...
There was nothing else for it....I couldn't go....only joking....I had to take the V10...
Off I sped through a town practically empty of traffic....oh joy!....and to be honest, I'd forgotten how much I loved my V10...
As you may have gathered, I am an intrinsically lazy girl.... so got to St Aubin and turned back!! Eek...how bad is that?! I told myself that it was too windy, that I was too unfit to go on to Corbiere on the V10 but then I had to admit that I'm just a lazy cow.......I need a cycling buddy to push me!!! I miss BFSD so much!
nb. it's 16 miles from my house to Corbiere and back and I used to do it 3 times per week before work so no excuses really...
To make up for my lazy ways I decided to walk to Trinity to see if my favourite Golden Retriever Tilly would like to come for a walk and she did!!....as did her Mum - BFSB - so off we set and for the second time this week....my feet are walked off me!!
All in all, not such a lazy day....

Day 1 - Saturday 10th February 2007
Today is the first day of my countdown to my Cycle Vietnam challenge in November. Today I have: a. set up a fund raising page at http://www.justgiving.com/siobhanmartina b. set up this blog to track my training progress and no doubt many frustrations; and c. started my training. It has to be said that I'm feeling a tad righteous! In saying that I feel that I have to mention that my training took place on my exercise bike at home....come on!!...it's far too cold and wet for the real thing! I'm looking at about April for that!!! I've set myself a goal of doing at least 1 hour on the bike every day and have had the most wonderful idea of how to get over the tedium of getting nowhere slowly! Yes... I'm going to watch the whole series of 'The Sopranos'....series 1-6 in fact! When I've finished these I'll then move onto '24' ...again...every series available on DVD. But panic not my sweets, amongst all this toil, I will also be going to the gym....I'll be the one with the very pink cheeks at Fitness First! How come some girls look great exercising and some look like...well....me?! My stats on the bike for today were: RPM - 72 / SPEED - 28 / TIME - 60 mins / DISTANCE - 26.48 / CALORIES - 599 ( = 1 Mint Aero & 1 Ripple!) But as the old saying goes, 'The best laid plans of mice and Siobhans' or as my lovely Mother would say, 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions!'. Till next time...
